Press Reviews for La Petite Gerda

With no press or marketing budget for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2023, we relied on the Footsbarn tradition of parading through the city to spread the word, so we were very pleased to collect the following reviews from the media that announced Footsbarn Theatre’s return to Edinburgh after 15 years, with a new family show based on the adaptation of the Fairytale classice The Snow Queen.

The Scotsman (paywall) ***

‘Magical characters … ingenious costumes … the best thing I have seen today!’

The Fringe Review

‘A Hidden Gem. La Petite Gerda is an imaginative retelling of a lovely story with a message comprising beautifully sung songs, excellent acting and creative storytelling from the entire ensemble. It’s also a wonderful way to introduce the young to musical theatre.’

British Theatre Guide

‘A beautiful rendition of the Hans Christian Andersen’s Snow Queen. The ensemble nature of the piece shows that each of our performers, in the spirit of the company, is multi-skilled, talking turns in accents and music which showcase the way theatre ought to be delivered: with care and respect. From them, we could learn a great deal.’

‘Footsbarn’s La Petite Gerda is a lovely version of a classic story that gives focus to themes of friendship, determination, courage and kindness. With its delightful visuality and homespun, folksy feel it will surely bring enough warmth to melt anyone’s frozen heart.
